Moon Festival

Moon Festival is a traditional festival celebrated by many East and Southeast Asian people.

It is the second-most important holiday after the Chinese New Year with a history dating back 3,000 years when China's emperors worshipped the moon for bountiful harvests.

The festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar with a full moon at night, corresponding to mid-September to early October of the Gregorian calendar.

🌟What will Taiwanese eat at the Moon Festival🌕?

Moon Festival is a grand festival for every Taiwanese. On this day, we will go back to our hometown to stay with our family members and friends and admire the moon together. There are things we will eat during this good time.

1.Moon cake🍪

In the eastern, we have a giving culture. Many people send gifts to others on different holiday to express our gratitude and appreciate. Besides, we will give different gifts on different days. For example, we can use pomelo and moon cake as a gift.

The most common flavor of moon cake is the yolk. It has red bean with egg yolk as stuffing and the crunchy outer. The other flavor is mung bean. After you take a bite, you will find out the mung bean and some pork, or even mushroom. The combination of moon cake in these two flavor may let some foreigners feel strange because it tastes sweet and salty and at the same time.😋😋

2.Pomelo 🍐

The pomelo is a symbolic fruit in October and November. We do not only eat the pulp, but there are still have lots of functions in pomelo’s peel.

For kids👦👧, we will make a pomelo hat as a toy. To housewives, the peel of pomelo can be dried under the sunlight, and these dried peels can avoid mosquitos coming and make some good smelling.✌✌😁

3.Barbecue👪🎑

The most important part of the Moon Festival is the barbecue. Everyone will stay together and chat with each other shoulder by shoulder. The ingredients you often find out in Taiwanese BBQ parties are below: pork, chicken, beef, steak, seafood, vegetables, bread, sausage, pig blood cake, and so on.🍻🍺🍢

Actually, no matter what we do or eat in this day, the main point is to spend some time to accompany our family, and enjoy the free time under this beautiful moonlight!💖💖💖
